Rozetta Katz

Rozetta Katz, born in Amsterdam in 1942, recounts a harrowing tale of survival during the Holocaust. Her secular Jewish parents, Hennie and Emile, tried to shield her from the mounting terror, hiding with her uncle before returning to Amsterdam. Entrusting Rozetta to the Van Der Weg family, they renamed her Rita to protect her identity.

Soon after, her parents were betrayed and deported to Auschwitz, where her mother and newborn brother were killed immediately upon arrival, and her father succumbed to starvation months later. Rozetta's foster parents cherished her, saving cacao powder for a liberation celebration that came with the Canadian forces.

Despite this, Rozetta's childhood was marred by fear and loss, and as an adult, she still grapples with the weight of her past, dedicating herself to helping other Jewish war orphans while battling to maintain hope in a world forever shadowed by sorrow and loss.
